I am experiencing a very strange problem when trying to install BO 4.1.2 on a brand new IBM 770 laptop. Immediately after you respond to the question to ‘notify if more recent DLL versions exist’, the _su.exe application crashes, first with a win 3.1-style error message (" an error has occurred in your program…", and then with a win95 gpf in module GDI.EXE. I have tried removing every single program from the taskbar during the install, but it still blows up. This is happening on multiple machines of this model and configuration across the company.

Any thoughts??

Jason,
I experienced quite the same behavior with exactly the same laptop: I wasn’t able to install the product.
I do not remember exactly my error message, but because of your GDI.EXE error message, I assume your problem is the same as mine: a display configuration problem.
What you simply have to do is:
Open the Control Panel of your laptop 2) Go in the “Display” properties
In the “Settings” tab, click on the “Advanced Properties” button 4) Select the “Performance” tab
And set your “Hardware acceleration” in the “Graphics” section to “None” instead of “Full”.
Now, you will be able to install the product !

We use the same computers at Business Objects. This is an IBM bug. Do this to solve this:
Control Panel -> System -> Performance. Turn off Graphics acceleration. Do the install, then you can turn on graphics acceleration.
I would also suggest dowloading the current BIOS from the IBM web site. I did this over the weekend and it solved a great many Thinkpad problems for me.
Good Luck.

This is just the kind of answer I was looking for…and the one tech support was unable to provide. Thanks for your quick response!
