We have requirement to extend existing Business Objects reports to handheld devices i.e. mainly Blackberry and iPhone. The reports are WebI, DeskI and dashboard reports (Xclesius).
Please share some information on feasibility / steps required / limitations / and any changes that may be required. It would be great to have any documentation that can explain better or coverage document from past implementations.
SAP has MOBi to run reports on BlackBerry devices. But the future on the BlackBerry platform is not looking good. A 3rd party vendor called ROAMbi provides an interim solution on iOS platform where you can run Explorer and BI OnDemand. I believe SAP will roll out a more robust solution soon.
As of Android platform, SAP is working hard to catch up. It is no longer just iOS anymore. Every time when you hear SAP talking about mobility, they will mention both Android and iOS together. Check out this article on SAP working with Samsung to roll out analytics for Android devices…
Have a look on the Roambi.com website, it’s all there. If what you need to know isn’t on there, send an email to them; Roambi is a third party tool, not an SAP product.
In addition to what Mark P has said, I will be cautious on getting tied down with 3rd party product when the solution from SAP is very likely just around the corner.
By the way, ROAMbi works on iOS ONLY. It does not work on BlackBerry.
Moreover, Explorer app has existed on the iPhone for over a year and WEBI on the iPad is curretnly being launched with BOE 4.0. And there is a way to put Xcelsius on the iPhone but is very tedious, & I have not tried that…yet

Not really. RIM had failed to react to the market shift and they have been way too contented with their old business model. So they did not just miss the boat but the entire fleet of the new market demand. They failed to recognize that, as great as BES is, email is just one piece of the whole mobile experience. Right now, RIM are losing their corporate customers as well. My employer has already moved from Blackberry to iPhone. RIM is following the footsteps of Palm who might have started the trend, but ended up losing it all due to lack of vision and out-of-touch of market change. I wouldn’t spend much time on the Blackberry platform if I were you.
