Wanted to know if Business Obejcts Enterprise Premium 3.1 and Data Services 3.2 works on Windows 2008 Server 64 bit? If so what necessary steps we need to take before installation or after installation?
Yes they do. Because both are 32-bit, when installing - ensure that it is not installed into the default “Program Files (x86)” directory, where Windows Server 2008 will install all non-64 bit software by default.
We have experienced some issues with BOE when installing it in the “(x86)” directory. Not so much with Data Services 3.2 yet but to prevent any problem, it is one of our best practices (in our consultancy agency) not to install any of the BO products into the “(x86)” directory.
Which means while installation I should make sure the files should end in Program Files but not Program Files (x86). Do you have any other suggestions I need to keep in mind before installations.
We do have separate hardware for BOE and DS. Just wanted to know if tehre are any other suggestions before I start installation on Windows 2008 64 bit.
also can some one explain me what does this mean
“The application is supported running on 64 -bit versions of Windows running on x64 CPUs made by AMD and Intel if it can reference the 32-bit operating system libraries as well as the 32-bit database and application client libraries.”
1 - Installing DS into an existing BOE environment (Tomcat 5.5) will cause the DS installer NOT to deploy the Web Components correctly - regardless of chosing the right option during setup. (Use existing Tomcat Application Server or something alike). This can be corrected by manually deploying the 3 DS Web components (see other posts on this forum).
2 - Installing DS 12.0 into an existing BOE / BO Edge environment (XI 3.x) under Windows Server 2008 will cause the DS installer NOT to write the correct UNINSTALL registry entries - leaving you without any option to uninstall DS correctly which in turns prevents you from upgrading to the much improved DS 12.2 version.
