Long time, no see!
I’ve just ben reading SAP Note 3028832 which mentions that from SP02 UDT is deprecated but available thru 4.3.
We make heavy use of the linked universe functionality, as we have Universes supplied by our system suppliers, and we use linked universes to build our own enhancements and fixes over the top.
At upgrade time, we link our universe to the new one from the supplier and off we go again.
The size of our local changes are now significant - significant enough that I don’t think we could easily document and rebuild on a single universe each time we get an upgrade from our suppliers. So this news is particularly worrying, and could be the writing on the wall for BusinessObjects after nearly 20 years.
Are there alternative solutions to what we’re doing that can be done in IDT?
EDIT: Ok, so I did some Googling, and it looks like linked universes were added to IDT sometime between now and when i last looked (4.2 SP05 guide was where I found the reference)
How does this work in practice, is it as seamless as with UNV linking?
