Yes, it’s supported
Check the ‘Supported Platforms PAM’ on the Product Support Page
Run install.exe

I believe you need Windows server to install 4.0 or 4.1.
You can’t install it on windows 7.

Server won’t, Client will

You can install both (BO 4.1 Server and Client) on windows 7.
It’s not supported but it works .
You have to change one file in the installation folder (see attachement).

Hi,
Thanks for the trick. Unfortunately, I am upgrading from 4.0 SP6 (which is working fine, both Server and Client tool on windows 7 Professional SP1 machine which is 64 bit) but when I use the patch file (File Name: BIPLATSVR4100_0-20010870, File Size: 3060754 KB) to upgrade to 4.1, I get not proper Operating system error. I have Windows 7 SP1 64 bit OS. Any clue, what to do?
Thanks,

I think both 4.0 client and server components can be installed on Windows Seven 64 its
Since the 4.1, you can just install 4.1 client tools on Windows Seven 64 and you need at least Windows 2008 Server 64 bit to install 4.1 server side

Thanks. But do you find any documentation to support this?
During unzipping, it says the attached message which mentions about Windows 7 SP1. The only other way is to un-install it completely and do direct installation of 4.1 and see it lets me do it. It is a lot of hassle and I wanted to find an alternative.
Please see attachment.

you are on windows 7 64 bits rights ? Then you suceeded to make previous 4.0 SPx install for both server and client side.
Now, you try to do an upgrade but runing the 4.1 setup program, it prevent you to continue because since 4.1, you can’t install server side on windows seven any more. I dare you have to uninstall your 4.0 server and resinstall from scratch 4.1 on a 2008/2012 server. I can’t see any alternative (or if someone know, I am interested in )

Yup…that’s the last option.
Background: I am interested in Mobile aspect of Dashboards and looks like they started supporting QAAWS only from 4.1…and I really want to try my existing dashboards on my iPad…

Just to wrap up some of the questions here, I have been trying to upgrade a local 4.0 installation to 4.1- and haven’t had any luck.
I’ve tried to apply the same kind of work around as indicated for a fresh installation- once you run the 4.1 patch self-extractor, it will give you a location in your AppData Temp folder where it is being extracted (Mine was called /RarSFX0). You can then navigate to the same location - /RarSFX0/dunit/product.businessobjects64-4.0-core-32 and find the product.seed.xml file. Unfortunately, updating the “Server” argument to “Workstation” does not allow the upgrade to work- it still returns the error saying that the operating system requirement is not met during the upgrade.
I hope this saves somebody some time, cause I spent a couple hours hoping this would work. If anyone finds a different work around- please share!
Thanks,
Mark

@Mark
I had the same problem with upgrading BI 4.0 SP4 to BI 4.1 SP2 (On Win 7 x64 SP1) and for me worked trick to update of file \dunit\product.boe64.patch-4.1.2.0-core-32\product.seed.xml
and of course change value AllowedSuffix to Workstation:
<arg name="AllowedSuffix" value="Workstation"/>

You rock Sakiman!
This worked perfectly as all I needed was to install UMT and avoid the provisioning of a server instance just for that.

hi guys
Just want to know if anyone has successfully installed BO XI 3.1 server on windows-7 (32-bit OS)
Thanks

I think it can be achieved without trouble. You just need enough RAM but XI3.1 is taking less than BI4.x

Has anyone tried to install full BO4.1 from scratch on Win7 ?
