We are using BO Dashboard 4 and as of now, the data is coming from the Oracle database via Web service connection and getting populated in an excel embedded in .XLF file. And we are using 30 connections to populate the dashboard due to which there is a hit on the performance .
We need to change it to the 4.1 functionality of a block Publish as Web Service to populate the same dashboard. Do I need to change the formatting of my dashboard?
Could someone please guide me or share some documentation which can help me in starting with this task… it would really be of great help…
You probably don’t “need” to. It should be fairly easy to replicate your existing data feeds with blocks.
But, you will probably want to. As with any change, there are advantages and disadvantages. You will want to make some changes to the dashboard to emphasize the advantages. One example is that you may want to use scheduled reports to minimize the hits on the database. This means changing from prompts to filters. Another example is that you may want to take advantage of cross-tab blocks, which require special handling in the dashboard.
Every situation is different. And, of course, one of the biggest factors is how much time you have to allocate to redesigning and redeploying the dashboard.
