Beginning Balances

I am trying to create a Business Objects Fixed Assets report which shows Beginning Cost Balances, Activity that occurred on the assets throughout the year, and Ending Cost Balances. The user is prompted to select the current calendar year (1998), so I have no problem retrieving the activity that occurred througout the year. My problem is in retrieving the beginning balances. Based on the users response for the current year (1998), is there a way to retrieve the cost balances as of the end of 1997 (which would be the beginning balance for 1998) without prompting the user? The universe is built on Oracle 10.7 Assets.

Create another report that returns only one record which will be your ending balance. Link this report to your regular report and you will have the beginning and the ending balances. The user will not see there are two reports if they are only going to do a refresh. Dilip
