I want to build a universe. what steps I must follow.

- Make sure you have a good understunding of the Data model
- Understand the business reporting requirements
- Who’s your audience: End uses for Adhoc or more technical report writers.
- Whats the source i.e. Cubes (gives you less universe flexibility) or a “normal” datawarehouse
- How many universes will be created
Tip: If the universe is meant for end-user adhoc stuff, Keep it simple so that everyone can write simple to medium complex reports.
Make sure the naming of your dimension and measure objects are in line with the actual business.
Use the description field for the objects.
Involve the end-user in the design phase i.e. organise a few workshops so that they can have their say as well. This will make them feel more involved and most of the time more positive.
Keep the universe tidy. Do a regular cleanup so that there are no objects that are not used anymore.

I highly recommend the universe design class. There is far more to bulding a universe than can be explained here.

I can only agree with Michael. And I often wonder, why a company dashing out money for the software, does not consider dashing out money for training its staff.
Now, if you are a consultant/contractor at a client, then your consulting company should send you to training before you start at the client.
