BCA error message

Hello,

Does someone know what that message means: "Error code= 0x800706be, Error Message ‘The remote procedure call failed’ wcode=0x00000000, Description=(‘null)’ "

I’ve got that message when BCA try to refresh a big raport. This report can be refresh from BO without any errors.

Has anyone found a solution to the error: "Error code= 0x800706be, Error Message ‘The remote procedure call failed’ wcode=0x00000000, Description= (‘null)’ " ???

I had BO’s recommended settings of 3072 and 512. I doubled the Interactive setting to 6144 and left the Non-Interactive at 512 and is still getting this error.

The transition to BcA has been really smooth except for this error.

Total RAM for BcA is 256 Mb on Windows NT BackOffice, Oracle 8, Net 8.

From the BO knowledge base:
Increase the size of the interactive desktop heap memory used by Broadcast Agent (BCA).
Run the servconf.exe utility (located at \Business Objects\Server\Business Objects 5.0).
In the “System Heap Size” group:

  • Either keep your systems current value for the Interactive setting or reset this value to the Windows NT default of 3072. - Set the Non-Interactive setting value to 512.

GLOBAL HEAP - Defines the amount of the system memory that NT reserves globally for all desktops. This value is shown here only for reference and
cannot be modified.

INTERACTIVE - The interactive desktop is associated to the interactive, logged on user (if any). It defines the amount of system memory that NT reserves for the interactive desktop. The default value is 3072 and should
generally not be modified

NON-INTERACTIVE - The non-interactive desktop is reserved to run service processes and COM server processes. It defines the amount of system memory
that NT reserves for Non-Interactive desktop. If this value is empty, it will use the same setting as interactive desktops. We recommend that this value is 512.

I had the same problem, and this is the solution BO provided, although my setting are the recommended ones, and this error message still occurs on large reports. However, it may work for you.

Doris,
If you are getting this error message only for queries that take a long time to execute,
try changing the parameters : ‘Delete inactive session after’ and ‘Timeout for Batch Actions’ in BOManager Administrator Properties to more than the time that your longest query takes. It worked in my case.

Doris,

you are right, this error can still occur even when the correct setting are applied in servconf. I took this up with BO again and again when I had this problem (and I still get it occasionally), however, what they came up with was that I needed to increase the setting in WebIntelligence Administrator|BOManager for the ‘Timeout for batch actions’ - I did have it set to 30 mins, and on increasing it to 60, this problem is less frequent. I assume what they are saying is that if an batch action times out, then BCA returns this cryptic error message. They also recommended increasing the settings for ‘Auto-shutdown BO Manager after:’.

Hope this helps

This is a timeout message, or so it seems. Increase the time limit for BO Manager, parameter “Timeout for Batch Actions”. The default is 60 minutes. I changed mine to 100 minutes. Some of my reports were taking an extreemly long time to write out html. Apparently the way BCA writes out html has changed in version 5.x, but instead of being faster it is much slower. Tech support came up with this workaround but has no solution to the slow html. Hope this helps.
Thanks
Darrell

We are testing 5.02/Oracle/NT and have configured a desktop to function as server. BCA is returning a invalid pointer message when attempting to process a large number of rows, 500,000. The report runs okay when run outside of BCA. Is this a problem with a heap config. value? I want to say this is a resource problem, as this is not the production server. Any ideas?

When creating a Business Objects query from Business Objects 4.1.3 and then submitting it to the Broadcast Agent 5.0.1.170, the query fails and we receive the message on the Broadcast Agent Console “(11) error in Convertor”. Does anyone know what this error message means? I have been unable to locate any details in the error manual.

The same query runs fine when we submit it from BO 4.1.3 to Document Agent Server 4.1.6, so I am suspecting there is something about the query that the Broadcast Agent Server does not like. Has anyone experienced these types of problems when switching over from Document Agent Server to Broadcast Agent, and if so, do you have any solutions? Thanks in advance.

In a message dated 01-06-13 12:04:17 EDT, you write:

I have not seen the message before, but to debug it I would try to open the document straight out in the 5.x client. Of course make sure you have a backup copy available since opening it in 5.x converts it to the new format.

There are two places that you could be receiving the error. If the report opens and displays fine in 5.x, then that is probably not the issue. The other place for the error would be when BCA is attempting to resave the document as a 4.x document format… unfortunately there is no way to test that with the 5.x client since there is no “save as” option to downgrade to the older format.

Something to think about, perhaps. Sorry I don’t have anything more specific.

I receive the following error message when running our macro in BCA to distribute a report.

Error #: -2147221246 was generated by Microsoft Outlook Error Message: Could not complete the operation because the service provider does not support it.

Is the SMTP service someone was referencing at some point in time?

Is it the user id that is used on the Server for sending out the email message that is the problem?

I am able to send messages fine to myself from the server.

Michael

Your problem with BCA emailing reports might best be debugged by logging into the server and running the macro in debug mode. Also, for emailing the files BCA will try to use the ID that you log into the server with so make sure
that that ID has been set up to send email.

Start BusinessObjects reporter module on the server and open the file with the
emailing macro. Open the macro editor and step through (F8) the macro one instruction at a time. Before stepping though the macro put a watch on the variable “Err” to see what errors might be getting set during the running of the macro.

This method will give you a better idea where you problem occurs.

Mike McErlain

Awhile back I posted questions about running email macros with BCA. …

It runs fine on my NT 4.0 sp6a machine and emails me a copy of each
report.
I created two contacts in Outlook 98 with 2 different vendor id’s and they point to my email address. Each email has the same named report attached, but the data is different (specific to the vendor id). Then I schedule the report macro in BCA, it blows up… seems like a different error message each time I go to run it.

I was told by our LAN admin that he thinks the problem exists because we
are
embedding it in a report. Once we take it out of the report, the macro
works
fine. He believes it has to do with the id that it uses once it gets onto the BCA server with the embedding process. Can anyone provide any suggestions or things to look at?

thanks,

Mike

I have recieved a baffling message from the BroadCast Agent regarding I report I’m trying to refresh.
It is as follows:

Bad caller workflow Unable to find session (BOMGR0120) on host pr-bo-01.

I have successfully refreshed this report on my PC. It is a long running report.

any ideas, thanks,
Joe

Have you reviewed the ‘delete inactive session after x minutes’ and the ‘session timeout’ settings as suggested by the error message ? Sounds as if the BOManager session timed out.

Hi Listeners,
I have a problem with Broadcast Agent. As we schedule some documents, which query times are expected to be long, to be refreshed through BCA, the following error message appears:

“Error Code=0800706be, Error Message=‘The remote procedure call failed.’, WCode=000000000, Descriprion=’(null)’”

I have no idea about this error message but we are thinking of some arrengements are wrong in BCA Settings.
Does anybody have any idea about this error message?
What do we have to do solve this issue?
thanks regards…

Hi,

I had a problem like this some time ago and found that the error was caused
by the BO Manager killing the busobj.exe session. In order to resolve this
I increased the ‘Auto Shutdown BO Manager after’ parameter within the
Administrator Tool from it’s default of 60 to 120 (have since increased to
260). I also increased the ‘Timeout for batch actions’ parameter to 120,
though I’m pretty sure that this should be set to the number of minutes
that the longest Broadcast Agent job should take to complete (I think mine
is now about 240).

These changes will give your documents additional time to run, though like
me you may find yourself increasing these further over time.

One further point is that it is recommended (or at least it was when I
looked at this problem some time ago) that the ‘auto-shutdown BO Manager
after’ parameter be set to a value greater than the one set for ‘timeout
for batch actions’. Otherwise any Broadcast Agent jobs requiring more than
this value will be killed.

There should be more information about this in the Broadcast Agent
Administrator’s guide.

I hope this will help to resolve your problem.

this also can come from differences between the data provider(s), ie odbc,
tnsnames entries, on the bca machine and what is in the report.
