Backup/Failover Server - Best Practice

our BO environment servers (all Edge XI 3.0)
Server1 - test: used for creating reports
Server2- production: the reports created in test are imported into production
Server3- disaster: supposed to be like a backup server in case production goes down users will log into disaster to run reports. Therefore data should be a replication of production.

I want to know if the following procedure is a good practice or could it be managed better:

  • whenever a report is in production I simply go into the disaster server and run the import wizard to pickup the new report and universe; is this a good practice?

When our company plans to test our disaster scenario - the plan is to replicate/copy the production databases, and restore them along with the filestore on the disaster server. The reason I dont want to do this when a new report is created is because its easier to just use the import wizard.

Depends on your SLA and what scenario’s you want to cover.
I.e. the most suitable setup is a cluster

When you run Import Wizard to promote the report to Production, the very same time, use Import Wizard to Promote the report to the “disaster” server as well. Just make it an internal policy. That way, the two environments will always be in synchronization.
