Back to the basics

I have been given the task of learning BOE on my own and have reached an impass.

I created an Access database and am trying to create a connection. I know you can only Export a database if it has a Secured connection, but when I try to define the connection, in the Login Parameters I only get the option of using Shared or Personal in the pull down menu. I have tried adding passwords and putting the database on a network server but still can’t figure out what I am doing wrong or missing. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Access rights. You need to have “Create, Modify or Delete Connections” access to Designer, and “Add objects to folder” in Connections.

A) One exports a universe, not a database.
B) Are you signed in at the BusObjects administrator? If so are you signing in into a CMS or stand-alone when starting Designer?
One must have a CMS up and running, to be able to import/export BusObjetcs universes, etc.

You’re right, it is a universe instead of a database.

I have create, modify, delete permissions for Designer according to the CMC. I have been able to Export universes that have secured connections for SQL Server but I am not able to create a secured connection for Access or SQL Server. I have no idea what permission I am missing and our Administrators have no experience with BOE so they don’t know either. Any specific suggestions?

Does it work if you log on to Designer as Administrator?
