Automate BusinessQuery Add-in in Excel

Has anyone found a way to automate the setup of the BusinessQuery Add-in for Excel? I know that selecting Tools-Addins from the menu is not that hard, but I also know that nothing is ever easy enough for most users. I can write a macro that will do it, but I’m afraid that some of our customers will see that as a security risk.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Alan

I didn’t do it, but our NT guys did using the registry setting

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel\Options

They set up a “Start, Programs” selection that runs a .reg file that does the same thing as the manual “Tools, Add ins”

Not sure why it would be considered a security risk; the users still have to do the BusinessQuery, Load, and enter the login/password.

Thanks for the info. I’ve played with that a little bit and it looks like it is a feasible solution.

The security risk part that I was talking about was in reference to running macros in Excel. Since macros are written in VBA, the potential for a virus spreading thru the macro is something that a lot of corporations are concerned about.

Thanks again for your help,

Alan
