Couple of choices⦠have you tried using a DB2 driver? or you may want to check out BOās website for Article # 972 which gives specific instructions for connecting to AS400.
When I persuaded my company (Shimano Europe) to buy BO for reporting/analysis purposes Business Objects was very eager to get a project going. When we settled for just the product (I could handle the demands quite well) they delegated us to a third party associate (unilaterally.
So, we still have to get our access to the tech support site as we are another small customer in the twilight zone.
Bottom line: love the product , loath the corporate ********
Anyway, some of you are helping out very nicely to get at some information we currently canāt get.
(But I am going to give it another try with our friends in the 3-piece suits! )
Can you give me a step by step list of your connectivity procedures? I will review them against what I know about connecting to AS400 as well as the article I previously mentioned. If I find any discrepancies, I will advise. I think I can do that as summary without getting into trouble from tech support.
Well, procedures are pretty standard working with Client Access for AS400.
The trouble is that in creating the connection in designer based on the network layer āIBM client access for AS400ā only the version V4R4 is available. Version 5.1.3 simply is too old I guessā¦
Just so you know, I have used old drivers on bo version 5 and thin client win95 AS400 (db2) on a win2000 machine and got it to work. Not the ideal situation because it can cause instability, but if itās your only choice you may want to give it a try on a machine thatās not being used regularly.
Just so you know, the article in BO Knowledge base does have a 10 step-by-step procedure. I tried it and it does work for me.
Thought you may want to know.
Again, best of luck!
Maybe you can help me. We connect to the AS/400 using BO and an ODBC driver. So far the only way we have been able to connect in WebI is to use a default ID - which we donāt want to do. Weād like to be able to pass the userās BO name and password to the AS/400 - or at least be prompted for an AS/400 ID and password.
When we run a query against AS/400 in full client, an AS/400 login window is returned. The user enters his AS/400 ID and password and can retrieve data. But when using ZABO or WebI, the AS/400 login window never appears (I assume the WebI server doesnāt know what to do with it). So the query just hangs while āConnectingā¦ā appears at the bottom of the screen.
Other BO users - including you - have suggested using a DB2 connection instead of ODBC. Iād like to, but I canāt figure out how to create the connection. For example, do I enter the AS/400 server name in the Host Name field? Is an AS/400 library the same as a DB2 database? Can you offer any guidance? Thanks.
Iāve found that the method Iāve been told to use to connect to the AS/400 had several namesā¦but they all seem to be the same!
Iām using IBM iSeries Access for Windows. It seems that is the same as āClient Access Expressā (CAE) and āDB2 Connectā. Iām not positive, but that is what Iāve been toldā¦
Eileen,
Could you share with me a soft copy of the instructions you use to create the connection? Or maybe screen shots of your connections?
Weāre running BO 5.1.7, but I donāt think the version of BO makes a difference. I just canāt figure out how to create an AS/400 connection that can be used on the WebI server.
