Anyone using BO in an HR application?

Dear All,

Currently, we are using BusinessObjects for our Data Warehouse and our EIS projects. We are looking at our HR systems and are investigating other possibilites. Can anyone help with their experiences? This is what we are interested in:

  1. Is anyone currently using BO as a tool for performing analysis on their HR systems? What backend databases are they connecting with?

  2. Is anyone using BO and directly linking to a DB2 database on the mainframe using ODBC or some other connectivity tool?

Thanks in advance,
Peace,

  1. We use Prism for some of our HR applications. It uses an Oracle database. We have a couple of BO universes that read this data. So far, everyone that I know of that is using it has been very happy, but I’m not sure what kind of analysis our users are doing.

  2. We use Business Objects connecting to a DB2 database on our mainframe through a Sybase DirectConnect gateway. This seems to work well for us. We haven’t had any major performance issues yet. And our users are very happy with the results they get. They are able to create reports much quicker than when they use any mainframe reporting tool.

If any of this info is what you are looking for, feel free to ask me some questions. I helped in setting up our DB2 universes, but I don’t know a lot about how the HR universes are set up. If you need info about those, I can talk to the person who supports those univeres.

Sandy;

  1. We are running all the Lawson Financial applications (Oracle) with some Bus Obj reporting being done.

  2. Just implementing DB2 V5 thru CAE UDB V5 middleware on MVS. Bus Obj 4.1.3 & 5.0 (Beta test).
    Both versions are working very well. We have also built our Bus Obj 5.0 repository in DB2 V5, & it is also running problem free (so far!).
