Due to some changes we need to make on our BOBJ server, we’re planning on migrating it to a VM Host box instead of it’s current machine.
That host is running VMWare ESXi 4.1 (VM stuff is a bit greek to me).
From what I’m told, BOBJ won’t know the difference that it’s on a VM vs a dedicated machine.
Is that true? Has anyone experience with running XIR4 on a VM box? We’re using an Edge license so licensing isn’t an issue and the VM Host will have 2 hex core processors with 72gigs of RAM… the only thing on this box will be BOBJ 4 , SQL 2008 and a BOBJ 3 (for developer use only).
I’d like to know if anyone has any issues with VMware machines before migrating to this platform if possible.
We have been testing BOB4 on VMs for a few months. The only issues we have encountered are BOB4 software issues. We have not had any issues due to it running on a VM.
Thanks! I don’t expect any issues , and I can’t think of any that would occur unless SAP is looking for anything at the hardware level. Only licensing would be affected that I’m aware of, and we’re on Edge so no issues there
