Any experience of SAP BO 2025?

Hi,
as anyone experienced the new version of SAP BusinessObjects 2025? Is it stable? Do you have any recommended SP/point of attention?
Regards

We just upgraded from 4.3 SP04 Patch 7 to BI 2025 Patch 4 10 days ago.

No upgrade is every seamless (done at least 8), but overall it seems pretty stable. The issues we are seeing are likely unique to our environment and upgrade path. We consolidated two production systems running on Window 2016 servers to one production system running on Window 2025 servers mostly using Promotion Management Wizard. We had to bring Users and Groups and Users over with a traditional Promotion Management (not Wizard) job. Some of our issues…

  • All file events needed to be resaved in the new system.
  • Some schedules failed due to insufficient privileges and need to be re-run and rebuilt.
  • Some shortcuts lost their target and needed to be recreated.
  • I was not able to figure out how to bring security over successfully so we just rebuilt it on the new system which wasn’t great because we missed some things and have had to add them since the upgrade. This was a case of I wanted to get it to work, but since it was a one-time issue was not willing to fight it anymore.

Performance has been good on our new system. One change that seems to be a feature is how to edit Free-hand SQL.

How did you manage the UNV to UNX universe change?

Our system is quite mature +25 Years, dreading the universe change as many of our reports have multiple data sources.

We did the bulk of our UNV to UNX WebI report conversion in 2017 using APOS Web Intelligence Migrator. I do not remember the cost, but it was not free. It seems they do have a UNV to UNX Upgrade Freemium Offer whatever that means (probably the “up to 200 reports”).

What version of BusinessObjects are you currently on? How many reports do you have that need conversion? If in the hundreds to low thousands, it could be manually with enough time and resources. If you have not changed source on a WebI report before it is easy, but tedious. Do not underestimate the time it will take.

This SAP Community blog post suggests using a product from Wiiisdom to do this conversion.

There are likely other tools and services out there and of course it is possible to build your own conversion process with the SDK. You just have to balance the cost in time and money with the expertise you have within your company.

I must be on the right track here because @dallasmarks concurs.

Thank you for your reply Noel, I will take a look at the links to products you provided.
We are running BOE 4.3, I did an audit for the last 18 months and we used approximately 2.5k reports, 10% of our total reports :face_with_peeking_eye: we will obviously further audit this as I am sure there are many duplicates in this number.

I totally understand changing universes manually will take time - we do not have any SDK knowledge in the company unfortunately.

We are on 4.3, waiting until 2025 support pack 1 comes out before testing the upgrade, we do not use Universes.
