Is it possible to put an animated GIF in a dashboard? I’d like a simple spinning wheel or something for a “data loading” notice. But the image component doesn’t seem to animate. I’d rather not create a mini SWF file just for a simple animation.

Not an animated .gif file no. There are plenty of free loading animations out there though, sample attached.
