Adobe SVG Viewer - Discontinued?

Hi All,

We’ve just started looking at dashboards and found that Webi needs the Adobe SVG viewer to create and view analytic objects. On installing the plug-in, I found that Adobe are going to discontinue support for it at the end of this year.

Does anyone know which viewer BO will default to from 01-Jan-2007?

I think BO currently supports SVG and Flash for analytics. I would imagine this wouldn’t be a problem.

Steve is correct in that both SVG and Flash are supported for Analytics. Adobe isn’t the only company that makes SVG viewers, so I suspect that BO will simply switch to another vendor. It should have minimal impact on users, as they would simply download the new viewer and keep working. Of course, if you already have the Adobe viewer, it should keep working beyond it’s support life, until BO no longer uses it for analytics.

Long term, I suspect Flash will become the standard for Analytics, as that is what Xcelcius uses, and it will most likely be the standard for dashboards.

Anyone know how to integrate the Flash into the dashboard? It appears as if the SVG Viewer is not permitted in our environment. Where do I find this version of the Flash and how do I get it to work with the analytics?

When you save an analytic, select Flash as the display mode. If you don’t have Macromedia Flash installed, you can download it and install it free from Adobe.

Kepp in mind that is this point Adobe SVG is required if you want to use all functionality of Performance Management (for example: Goal Analytics, Metric Trees, Strategy Map, etc…) FLASH at this point is not a full replacement.

I suggest contacting Business Objects directly and submit an RFI (request for information) from the Product Group or ask for a SOD (Statement of Direction).
