I would like to know what are the skills required to be a good Administrator of BO server.? what’s the need of having unix skill for server administrator.?
The reason behind of this question is that the demand of BO server admin with unix skill.

To be more serious, it is usefull to have unix skill in case of software install or patch, when you have to do some services on it or set some parameters in config files

I think the best person for the job has a broad knowledge of many different IT technologies and needs to be very adept at troubleshooting. I say that because Business Objects touches so many pieces of infrastructure, for example:
[list]Authentication (e.g. LDAP, AD, etc.)
SMTP
File shares
Web application servers
Load balancing
Firewalls
All sorts of database related tech
Storage[/list]I don’t believe you need to be an expert at each, but it is necessary to isolate issues and ask the right people the right questions for help when the need arises.

In addition, the BO Admin should also be good at scripting languages like Perl Script, shell scripts, and so on.
And depending on your shop, the BO Admin might also be the perfect person to develop SDK code since he or she already has access to the servers and the environments.

An excellent point. At quick glance at my Eclipse projects show over 80 different programs used to manipulate XI in some way including customizations to InfoView. Some functionality that should be included out of the box is only possible using one of the various SDKs.
