Active X Viewer - Windows XP

We have recently moved from Windows 2000 to XP and have noticed that when we now ‘View on Demand’ any reports (using Active X viewer) the following message appears on the Viewer toolbar ‘Press Spacebar or Enter to activate and use this control’ (actual message is shown on the attachment). Is there any way this message can be switched off as this is resulting in a lot of complaints from our users (message doesn’t appear in 2000) or is it just an ‘XP enhancement’? It’s worth pointing out that the message displayed is wrong as pressing the toolbar or enter key does not activate the toolbar! You have to click the toolbar with your mouse to activate it and display your print, export, etc. options.

Many thanks.

Sorry to bring this back to the top, but did anyone find the solution?

We did resolve it towards the end of last year by moving to the latest version of the activexviewer.cab. HOWEVER we have recently applied various MS system patches and this has caused the issue to resurface. Again we have moved to the latest version of the activexviewer.cab file but this time it hasn’t resolved the issue. I am just about to log this with BO support…!!

Hi Chris_W

This is what I have found, have raised with BO.

From digging around the web this appears to be a change in the way activex controls are handled in Internet Explorer by Microsoft in response to a patent lawsuit between Microsoft and Eolas.

Microsoft have also issued some code samples which are supposed to avoid this message:

Update:
Advised by BO support that is now fixed.

Have now installed BO XI R2 Fix Pack 2.1 as advised and it has fixed the problem again.
