User Defined Objects Problem...HELP!!

I have a user that is trying to create a user defined object. She clicks on the button (it is not grayed out) the cursor changes briefly, but then nothing else happens. It’s also doing this for me.

However, if we go to a different universe, when we select user defined objects, we get the screen to create one. That would lead me to believe that it’s something that has been turned off in the first universe, but I can’t find it anywhere.

If anyone can send me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!!

Kari,

I’ve had the same problem a couple of months ago. Om your machine, a local udo-file is created in the universe folder of BO for the universe in use.
Try and delete this file (if it exists). It helped me.

Kind regards,

Me…

Check to see if you have a 0kb .udo file. If so, delete it and things should return to normal.

Check if you find an empty *.udo file for this particular universe in your universe folder. After deleting this file everything should work fine.

Hope this helps,

Peter

Al,

I have had similar and other problems in BO, that I have been able to fix by deleting the .udo file as well.

Anybody know what the purpose of this .udo file is then?? Especilally when it is empty as well.

Thanks
Guido

Hi, Guido.

The Univ_name.udo file actually holds the definitions of all your User Defined Objects for that Univ_name. This is the reason why UDOs are considered local objects to your machine, and reports with UDOs are not by default supported for BCA or distribution to other users.

The Univ_name.udo file is created only when you go to create UDOs in BusinessObjects. It becomes empty (and hence “corrupted”) when you begin the process but then you cancel out and don’t actually complete any definitions. I have a hunch, too, that it may also become empty when you open another user’s report, and that report contains a UDO and you don’t have any defined for the same universe.
