Has anyone ever experienced the following problem? I have a user that cannot create a user object when using one particular universe. But he can create a user object on other universes. When I log in I can create a user object on that particular universe, but he cannot. When he clicks on the user object he does not get the screen to create the object.
Any ideas?
sometimes there will be a zero length UDO file - see if that’s the case… if so, delete it and voila…
good luck,
b

I am having some inconsistencies when using ‘User Objects’. Here is the situation. In Supervisor…
We have 2 users in different groups but with the same permissions (including 'Using User Objects - enabled). Both groups that these users belong to have the ‘Using User Objects’ enabled as well.
However, one user in a universe can use the ‘User Objects’, and the other user can’t. (What happens is he click the ‘user objects’ button and nothing happens)
What’s really weird is that the user that can’t create a user object and he ‘owns’ the universe, but can create user objects in other universes. Also, the user that can create a user object, cannot use the tool in another universe.
I was told to check the permissions in Supervisor, ‘Query Technique’ - ‘Use User Objects’ but that didn’t lead us anywhere.
Is there a setting at the universe level that we are missing? Please help!
If the user can create User Objects in one universe and not another then the problem
could be a corrupted .udo file (where user objects are maintained) for the universe in
question. Look in the default Universes folder and look for a file with a “.udo” extension
and the name of problem universe. If the problem is with the Sales universe look for a
file names “Sales.udo”. If this file has a size of 0kb then is most likely corrupted.
Try deleting the file from the drive and then try to create a user object again. This should
correct the problem.
I won’t ask why the universe “owner” which I assume is the designer is using User Objects
instead of creating new universe objects! Every site is different!
Suzanne,
User Objects work with udo file(universe folder). To my mind, I suggest to import the user objects to the designer. If you rename the extension or delete, you will be able to click on the user objects button, however you will lose the all user objects created.
I have a Universe that won’t allow me to create User Objects in it. Is there a reason why this is happening? I tried creating a new universe altogether and I am able to create the User Objects this time.
Thanks,
Nighat

The UDO file can get messed up. If your new universe is called NewUniv.UNV, you need to simply find the NewUniv.UDO file and delete it. Generally you are able to create user objects after that.
Fortunately, I have not heard of anyone having this problem once they create any user objects. It only seems to happen with a brand new file for some reason. At least as far as my experience goes.
