BusinessObjects Board

missing menu bar

HI, when I’m opening BO, I’am missing the menu bar, meaning the bar with the buttoms help, tools, view, file etc.
Has some-one an idea to get it back?

Which Business Objects version are you using on which Operating System? Did it work before?

BO v5.1 on Windows 2000
We didn’t had problems before.
It is on the pc of a collegue in an other city, so I can’t see it, but she just reinstalled BO, but this has no effect: still missing the bar

Did he/she clean out all Windows registry entries related to Business Objects before the re-install?
Business Objects version 5.1.x?

So for your co-worker it used to work at some point or?

Does that user has Active Directory by any chance.

BO 5.1 INTL says the “about” in “help”
No, she didn’t clean up the registry, I think (it’s evening here,so I can’t ask it.)

I believe they are asking because the Toolbar (and other settings) are stored in the Registry. If you can log in as a different user and see the toolbars, then you will need to clear out all references to her BOUSER id in the registry. This will essentially “reset” BO for her.

In hkey_local_machine or in hkey_users?
I can’t find the entry in the registry.
(I am trying it at home, where is no user-id of course:is that the reason I don’t find the userid?)
I found a lot of entry’s called Business Objects5.0 Bars0,1,2,3,4,5,6 etc,
maybe that is something?

 It worked when my collega logged in in Windows with another user account.
So she uninstalled BO, removed the BO entries in the registry, and installed a fresh BO: it’s working!
Thx

I still have this problem. This is happening with 5.1.4 on Win2000, but I am also running 6.1a on the same pc. I have already completely unistalled and deleted the registry, and reinstalled everything, so I’d prefer not doing a complete reinstall of both versions again.

I can recreate the problem logged in as other users, so I’m not sure the fix up above will work for me. Does anyone know the specific reg path for what may need to be deleted?

Thanks,
Jesse

There is a bug in BO 5 that causes the menu bar and all other tool bars to disappear if you open a large report or your PC is a bit “slow”. It is still there in 5.1.6. BO support recommends changing the shortcut to use “compatibility mode” of an earlier operating system, (on XP). Don’t know if that’s an option for 2000. However, on XP this doen’t work. It completely cripples BO acces to the repository… So we are living with the issue. we get the missing elements back by using the window maximize/restore button.

Hi,

I had the same problem and I fixed it by doing the following: Please try this and let me know if it fixed yours.

  1. Login to Business Objects Full client.

  2. When it is open, Press Alt +F11 to activate the VBA Window.

  3. Press CTRL + G for the “Immediate Window” if it is not already open.

  4. Type the following line into the “Immediate Window”:

    application.cmdbars.activemenubar.visible = true

  5. Click Enter.

This should resolve the issue and bring back the Menu bars

Thank God for BOB

We had this issue to and it fixed it quicker than having Tech Support.

Which for all legacy products it seems to have been moved to India.

No surprise there…

We had the same problem occur today. I was able to get the toolbars back, but not the windows menu bar. The Alt +F11 does not work, apparently the VBA is not installed on the users machine. Is there another way to get the command entered other than through VBA?

Thanks for the resolution tip, just wanted everyone to know I’m on 6.1a and still have the same problem. Fortunately the same resolution also works.

The disappearance of the menu bar is caused, for me, when I’m running a huge, complicated report.

charliebrown :us: (BOB member since 2002-09-03)

Thanks for the resolution!

using…

 application.cmdbars.activemenubar.visible = true

helped. However when I exit BO and re-login, the menu is missing once again.

Any way of making BO ‘remember’ the settings?

thanks,.

Once I have reset the menu it is there when I sign back on. Maybe something is corrupted in your registry entries.
