DON’T DO IT.
I migrated three folders from development to production yesterday. Normally I do not migrate security but set it manually post-migration. I was feeling adventurous so I let PM migrate security.
Big mistake. While it did in fact apply the permissions for the one group on the three folders, it completely removed all security on the top level folders: Public Folders, Universes, Connections, and Root Folder 95.
I realized what happened pretty quickly, and I manually re-applied the appropriate rights on Public Folders, Universes, and Connections.
But Root Folder 95 is not visible in CMC, so I did not realize right away that it had been wiped out too. This morning, I find that any reports that use unx universes cannot be refreshed – they all throw “You do not have access to data in this universe”. I could create new reports with the universe just not refresh existing reports. So, it took me some time to figure out what was wrong.
Fortunately, I just happened to have a utility I wrote a while back to copy permissions from one environment to another. So I copied the permissions of Root Folder 95 from development to production, and we were back in business.
