'You are not authorized to use this universe'

–openmail-part-0141c81a-00000001

We have received a number of Universes via e-mail. When we attempt to open them up in Designer module we receive the error message ‘You are not authorized to use this universe’.

We have created a dummy universe with the same name/filename, saved the dummy universe. Then we have overwritten the dummy universe using file-manager. But this gives the same result.

Any help on this would be appreciated

Keith,

ask the universe developer to save the universe with File|Save As… and check the “Save for all users” checkbox in the “Save As” dialog, and then ask him/her to resend the universes to you.

Ps. Sorry, apparently I cannot disable this formatting thing for individual messages.

The problem is that the universe “knows” that it has been previously exported. So, when you try to open it, Designer scans your repository for a universe that you have access to with the same ID / Name. When it doesn’t find one, it assumes that you do not have access to that universe.

Any universe that has never been exported will not have this problem and can be shared freely.

To fix this, you have two choices:

  1. Open the universe as the General Supervisor. Nothing can ever be locked away from that user.

  2. Get the person(s) that sent you the universe to do a “Save As” and check the “Save for all users” box. That tells Designer not to bother with the security (repository) check when you try to open it.

You can also open the document as General Supervisor and save the document with File|Save As… and then check the “Save for All Users” checkbox in the save dialog box. Then the developer would not have to resend the documents.
