Which Dimension Should I Link a Detail Variable Object To?

Hi

I guess this is a failry fundamental question.

I have 2 fairly simple DPs. The first returns a list of objects, including Customer ID, Customer Name, Customer Status Code etc. Now the descriptions relating to the Customer Status Code I need to get from a different DB and hence I have a 2nd DP which returns Customer Status Code and Description. So I simply link the 2 DPs on Customer Status Code. Easy.

But all the dimensions that I have in the first DP - should I make them detail objects of Customer ID (which seems logical to me). Or should I make them detail objects of Customer Status Code - the object that I am using to link to the 2nd DP.

It might not make any difference in my example, but it might aid my understanding of what’s happening.

Ok sorry to be pendantic here. Steve says

So the linked dimension in my case is Customer Status Code. But it isn’t the lowest level of detail - Customer ID is. So which is the correct one to choose?
