As Michael asked, it would be better if you tell where/when exactly you face the problem. Anyway this FAQ talks about when you’ll get Incompatible Objects error message.

It has do with the combination of objects that you are selecting while creating report.
Suppose you have Object 1, Object 2 and Object 3
So you will get report for Object 1 which has relational values with Object 2 and Object
Wherever this relational object values are not compatible it gives you Incompatible error . I think this is more of conceptual question and not sure how much time you spent with DW-BO
