DS 4.0 install needs a BOE 4.0 instance. Either the full one or we provide you with a Mini-CMC under the covers.
Nevertheless it has some interesting features, to name a few:
SAP Extractor support, so DS looks to SAP like another BW system and can get the data the same way. A new API was developed for that on the SAP ERP side and needs to be installed via a note or service pack there.
ANSI Join support so you can mix inner and outer joins and have better control about the join ranks if needed.
Text Data Processing is a new Transform in DataServices to extract structured information out of free form text. Imagine you read a support database and you want to figure out what component failed how often.
BOE Integration provides us with BOE security.Still not on Object level but at least on repo level. So in the Management Console you can now execute your repo’s job but not somebody else’s. Just as an example.
SAP BW 7.3 DataSource loading is supported finally as BW contains APIs for that
DS integrates with Solution Manager and System Landscape Directory of SAP
New Validation Transform GUI
Various improvements in DQ around Address Cleanse, Global Suggestion List, URAC, GeoCoder, Match
A new DQM SDK to build lightweight DQM solutions
The goal of Ramp-Up is not to provide you with a beta version, it rather is a finished product. But we want to roll it out to a limited set of customers first to get their impression. We provide you on the other side with special attention on problems you might face. So if you are interested in either one of the features, please sign up for RampUp.
I can nominate people for it, just either send me an email or post here. Information I will need is
Does it mean that the whole Text Analysis server (like Thing Finder etc) isn’t needed now, and it all has been moved to DI Text Analysis transform? Or, what would be the functional split?
Yes and No. Yes, thingfinder moved into DataServices but the TA solution is still available as DataServices cannot cover all cases, e.g. with DS you cannot parse pdf files.
Werner, is there any word on pricing? Will the license costs and structure stay the same as Data Services XI 3.x (12.x) or will there be changes there as well?
There will be an updated pricing but basically everything remains the same. But you get more for the same money, e.g. the Text Data Processing transform is added to all licenses (and existing customers). Remember, pricing is not an area I know much about.
@aaron: Data Services 4.0 has a medium ramp-up which is scheduled to take 6 monhths. We started ramp-up Dec 10th, so plan is to exit ramp-up and enter unrestricted shipment in June. Current plan is second half of June and alligned with the Data Services 4.0 SP01 release (with Solaris & AIX added to the list of supported OS).
BUT… one thing to keep in mind is that in order to exit ramp-up, some KPIs need to be met internally. Most important KPI is that we need to have about 25 customers participated in ramp-up and 5 of them need to be live in production with the new version. In case we don’t meet these KPIs in June, the ramp-up will be extended untill these KPIs are met.
You can still sign-up for ramp-up to help us reach our KPI ! One important requirement for ramp-up is that SAP consulting needs to be involved as a ramp-up coach (which is not free of charge), but this will guarntee you a smooth upgrade to 4.0 !
@aparikh : Teradata Temporal support is not part of DS 4.0. We are investigating this for a future release/support packages but is not committed yet. In general Teradata 13 & 13.10 are supported though, just this feature is not supported yet.
Information Steward - with cleansing package builder as part of it - is scheduled to start ramp-up end of March. You can already signup for this rampup if you are interested.
German text data processing is part of Data Services 4.0 already. But what is missing is the rule pack for sentiment analysis in German - so maybe you are referring to this. The German sentiment analysis + adding many more languages are planned for next the Data Services minor release (4.1 - still in planning phase).
@bhofmans: Thanks for the update. We’re a relatively new deployment of DS, and unfortunately I can’t see the purse strings opening for more funding towards engaging consultants for ramp-up. The real concern is Windows 7 support and the 64bit job engine. We’ll just have to sit out the next 4 (or so) months.
@Aaron: I understand.
In case you didn’t know yet : Windows 7 support -> we added official support in XI 3.2 SP3 as well, this was released last month.
Native 64-bit support will only be available in 4.x.
