I might be missing something here, but is there any way to create a document in WebIntelligence 2.0 and port it over so that a client running BusinessObjects can work with it? I believe a WebI document is stored in a .wqy file and I see that the BO client app can open .wqy files. However, I cannot find any way to save a WebI document as a .wqy. When the download option is used for a WebI-created document, it only allows the output to be saved as a .csv file. The Systems Administrator guide seems to indicate that .wqy files are only used in temporary storage by the Report Generator process. Is this the only way that they are created?

Although this does not seem to be documented anywhere and I cannot guarantee Business Objects would support it, the current format used for WebIntelligence files (.wqy’s) seems to be almost identical to the format used for Business Query for Excel files (.bqy’s). As a result, you can convert a Business Objects document to WebIntelligence by doing the following:
Opening the document and Business Objects and saving it as a
Business Query for Excel file (.bqy).
2. Take the .bqy file and put it on the WebIntelligence server
in the
\program files\WebIntelligence\Storage\user\USERNAME subdirectory
where USERNAME is the name of a Business Objects user 3. Login to WebIntelligence as the user in the previous step,
and look
under personal documents. The document will be there.
Note that it does seem like the document may carry some extra baggage (on initial screen paint I occassionally notice what I believe to be headings but it immediately goes away). The document, however, is editable and will refresh properly. Note that the result of this produces simply a Business Objects table containing the base data. Crosstabs, graphs, or other document specific formatting will be gone (as will variables unfortunately).

This is easy. In WebI, you must ‘publish’ this document to the repository. It will appear in the repos as “filename.wqy”. Then launch the fat client BusObj software, retrieve from repository, and retrieve “filename.wqy.” Notice than as soon as you click on this file in the retrieve screen, the default location it’s stored at on your local PC changes from USERDOCS to C:\TEMP. Anyway once you’ve downloaded the document from the repository, go to FILE → OPEN in BusObj, point to C:\TEMP, select WebI files (*.wqy) as your file type and then open the file. You’re in business.
