WebIntelligence configuration for 50 users

Hi,

If you have an installation with more than 50 users, please help me, with your hardware configuration.

I need to deliver our first installation and we need to go live OK.

Best regards

Just make sure you have plenty of memory. We don’t have everyone on yet but we have a license for 225 infoview Webi users. We have a Compaq Proliant 800 with 1GB memory. We were told by a BO Technician that it would be a good configuration.

Libardo,

We have about 250 users. However, we rarely have more than than 5 logged in at any given time. BO suggests that you 25M of memory for each concurrent user that you expect. So we have a Compaq Proliant with 512M of memory. That allows up to 20 concurrent users. I hope this helps.

I saw a more involved formula for memory useage (close to this):

Active users * 15mb + <- wiqt
Concurrent users * 20mb + <- full client
( Webi over head of 30mb +
NT overhead of 64mb +
Miscellaneous of 20mb)

So 1 user in webi, 1 refreshing a full client doc makes 15+20 + 114 = 149mg …

That is pretty close, hope it helps… We found that processors have the ability to be a real bottle neck tho, BO will slow down significantly when there are multiple users on one processor, actively… Not to say you need 10 processors for 10 users; but if your users run into each other consistently (2 processes maxing out a cpu), you will see a significant drop in performance.

Good luck,
Brent

We designed our WebI environment for roughly 300-400 users, plus a significant number of BCA processes running at night. We are using a WebI cluster consisting of two of the following boxes:

Compaq 1850R, 2x600mhz CPU’s, 18 GB disk, 1GB RAM

It has been working fine. From reading the documentation, they suggest adding more boxes, rather than adding CPU’s to an existing box. I’d suggest you start with two boxes (that way, with a cluster, you have some failover), then as you notice performance issues, you can always add more boxes to the cluster.

Hope this helps.
