WEBI on Solaris

Installed WEBI 2.5 on SOLARIS with Apache Web-server doesn’t work at all. After entering user name and password it dies, having hundreds of messages ‘wiqt has been killed’ in WebiServer.log. No visible attempt to access repository. Repository access functions correctly from command line using isql (repository is on Sybase ASE 11.5). Even removing bomain.key doesn’t change WEBI behaviour. Full BO clients work correctly. Any experience, help?

I saw something on that in the BO knowledgebase, it may be a server / user permission… something like an execute permission…

Sorry I’m not more help on this, but if you cant get to the kb, let me know - I go out there a lot

This is what I was thinking of…

Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server …

For the current user, enter the following: xhost +

For a permanent fix, enter the following: xhost [server_name]

that was the jist of it, maybe fits your situation?

I am sorry about that, I meant to say that BO has a big technote on how to configure access, httpd, mime, and srm.cnf files… I can pass that on to you if you cant get if off the server

Good luck

We installed WeBi 2.5 on one domain of the SUN Enterprise 10000 (Solaris 2.6) using Apache as Web server at the same domain. WeBi Administrator tool doesn’t work at all - after entering username and password all the staff fall asleep indicating data transfer from server. Only a white rectangle appears, thats all. If we try to reload the page, “Applet Frontal running” message appears.
Connection to repository work well, but all the staff works terribly slow.
We use Sybase IQ 12 as main database ,and sybase ASE 11.5 for repository.
Any advise?

Gustav,
We are looking into hardware and software(minimum) requirements for UNIX WEBI 2.5 and Broadcast Agent server. Since you are already into deploying it, could you please let us know what is your hardware configuration?can this information be found in any of the BO documentation as well?

thanks
shaila

OLD thread, but i am curious how many folks are using Solaris / Sun equip…

we are getting ready to test drive a 6500 and webi 2.53… the box will have 16 processors and 16 gb ram… any thoughts on things to consider while we are setting this up? BO recommended (at least once, i may be reading too much into this) setting the box up as one server with 16 processors…

anyone have any suggestions? pitfalls you have experienced?

any help would be great, if only steering towards resources, i can research…

Brent,

Here’s an exerpt of my notes that I took at the local BO User Group Conference in San Jose 2 last week regarding WebI/BCA setup. Now, the discussion was aimed directly at NT servers and the comment made that Unix systems wouldn’t have this need. Thought I’d share it with you anyway.

  1. DO NOT put WebI and BCA on the same box 2. WebI was not intended to be run on one box - phenomenol stability has been obtained when it shares 2 boxes - moderately priced 2 processor box w/ 1G memory is great … and 2 of these kinds of boxes is better than 1 4 processor box

NOTE: This translates really into a need for THREE machines in order to run WebI and BCA optimally! Two to break the WebI processes up into those for WebI reports and those for full-client (take much more bandwidth and should be separated) AND a third for the BCA processes.

  1. using ‘servconf.exe’
    a. ‘non-iterative’ - default is 512. This is the amount of memory allotted to NT processes. 512 just isn’t enough, set to at least 1024 and on beefy machines to 1536 – refreshing of full-client reports were stablilized the most by this on NT servers often there is a small c: and a larger d: – by default BO puts the swap space on c: … better to move to d:

  2. BO Manager tuning
    a. ‘delete inactive sessions’ - default to 60 mins, set to 15mins b. ‘min # loaded processes’ – for a small or busy server, set to 1 (cannot set to 0)
    c. ‘recycle processes’ - in 2.0 set to 4 but in 2.5 set to 120 - totally counterintuitive and there is no explanation as to why, it just been found to have changed dramatically

BCA tuning - set ‘max # concurrent jobs’ to 5 … BO thought that most people would run 6-7 WebI reports and 3-4 full-client … that is not the case in most places, most run many more full-client … therefore 10 is bad as NO server (even db) can handle 10 large full-client reports sent at once

Hi,
I have a problem regarding installation of Webi( 2.6 ) on solaris( 7 ). The problem is, when we run the wmainkey script, BOMain.key is getting generated successfully. But later there is a question asking us whether to test the connection , when we press ‘y’ we are getting this error “Get Network NOT OK : Sybase CTL” . We are using sybase with open client 11.1.1. When we type the IP address of the machine in the browser we get the homepage of webi, when we press the login button & enter the username & password, we get the following error “Cannot Access Network Layer (USR0046)”.
Our work has been stopped because of this, from past one week and this is an important issue.
If any of you have a solution to this problem please mail to me, iam desperatly waiting for your replies.
Thanks in advance,
Mohammed Ziauddin
