WebI Extranet

All,

Any idea about WebI Extranet edition. How does it differ from WebI?

Thanks

Webi Extranet is the full functionnalities of the full Client version but available as an active-X.
So you don’t have all this restrictions that you have with the actual version of WEBI.

I made a small mistake in my previous email. In fact WebiExtranet is unfortunatly not the Full Client features over the web.

Again Sorry for that mistake.

Does anyone have a good source of information about Extranet edition of WebIntelligence? We are using the intranet version, and thinking about switching to extranet. All I could find on the Business Objects site is the newsletter, which does not have enough technical detail to make a good assessment.

Thanks.

Does anyone have a good source of information about Extranet edition of
WebIntelligence?

We believe that business intelligence extranets will be a vital part of the future internet infrastructure, so we’re investing development resources in a product focused on this fast-growing market. The key differences between WebI and WebI EE are below, and an extranet edition datasheet should be available on our web site shortly.

Key differences:

Contract: WebI is licensed for internal use, WebI EE for external use.

Pricing: WebI is typically sold per user, WebI EE is sold only on a per-server basis.

Functionality: WebI EE includes all the functionality of WebI, and adds the ability to access an area of our web site containing application-level tools and scripts built specifically for extranet needs. The first version of WebI EE currently includes a universe to help with auditing, ASP scripts to make it easier to customize the user interface, and information about setting up WebI in firewall environments. This area will be extended in the future – and we’re keenly interested in talking to cutting-edge companies about future extranet feature requirements.

Consulting: WebI EE is usually sold with a minimum of 20 days of consulting, to ensure successful deployments.

Maintenance: premium maintenance contracts strongly recommended (since these are typically customer-facing applications)

For more information about the product or consulting services, please contact me or your local Business Objects representative.

So basically you took your existing package, repackaged it and are selling it to us again?
BTW, loved your presentations at the conference…yours was the best of the bunch!

In some ways! The real benefit is that we now have a dedicated extranet business unit and development team, and with >100 existing extranet customers, we’ve learned a lot about how to make the projects successful from a business point of view. As we go forward, the pure extranet content will increase – watch this space…

And thanks for the nice comment – Tony Jewitt and I have always have a lot of fun doing the shows.

The extranet addition is different from basic Webi in that it allows for the decoupling and running within a DMZ. Keep in mind that the processes are still the same but the tuning will be different due to the extra things (firewalls) that get in the way of a DMZ deployment

They have developed a procedure and process that tells you how to deploy and how to configure the firewalls properly.

Tony’s group (Stuart Rowland) are excellent in helping you understand technically what and how to do it, which helps us rookies when it comes to this type of Extranet rollout.

One more thing to add on this note…the extranet edition of WebI is also licensed differently for obvious reasons. From what I’ve heard from my sales rep, the cost is $100K per server for up to 4 CPUs and $25K for each module (infoview, reporter, explorer).
