Web Intelligence application not shown in the list

Today is not my day :nonod: I have Explicitly Denied the option Log on to Web Intelligence and view this object in the CMC for group Everyone. Now I am not able to see Web Intelligence application anymore in CMC - which was not my idea… How can I make it to show again? I have administrator privileges and use BO XIR2.
Thank you in advance!

Explicitly denying access overrides all other access - even for administrators! What you should look into is setting the right to “Not Assigned” for all groups (including Everyone) except Administrators. Then, if other users need the access in the future, create a separate group that has the access granted and assign the users who require access to that group along with any other groups whose access they need.

Apologies for the thread necro but I have also done the above. Whilst the reply is helpful it doesn’t give any indications of how you can get it back again. Specifically in order to change the setting back you need to be able to view the Web Intelligence application in CMC and it’s not there anymore

Is there another way to access this setting? Seems like a bit of a design flaw?

This is on a system which is being retired and decommissioned, but I’d like to know if there is a way to revert this?

I’ve observed in some other cases where you can specifically grant the permission to the Administrator user and it will have permissions. You may need to log in as the Administrator user to do this. The Administrator login as “super user” permissions that sometimes overrides the group assignment permissions.

Thanks for the response @JohnBClark - logging in as Administrator doesn’t help and I can’t find another way to re-assign the permission. It looks like it needs to be done via Applications → Web Intelligence - which is no longer viewable by anyone.

I think I’ll just take it as SAP’s final “present” to me as I say goodbye to Business Objects and shut down the services for retirement. If I absolutely need to I have back-ups I can restore back to.

Just as a clarification, in case this was unclear:
@JohnBClark was talking about logging in as the adimistrator, not as an administrator.
So, the steps would be:

  • login as the administrator into the CMC
  • try to find WebI in the Application list
  • add the administrator to the principals list
  • explicitly assign full control and break inheritance
  • save, maybe login again.
  • Now see if it works. If so, remove the deny to the everyone group.
    I hope this helps…

@FelixKrul - thanks I had tried this but it also fails at step 2. WebI is no longer in the Application list for the Administrator user. I think the only way to undo it would be to go to the back-up.
