Web I Login time

We have shifted to WebI 2.5.2 on Oracle 8 But, now the time taken by users to login has inconsistently increased to the renge 38-42 secs …Can someone tell what could be the reason for that ?Any suggestions how it can be reduced …

Thanks,

Fellow Listers,
I’d sent the same problem few days back but didn’t get any response for it.We 've recently migrated from WebI 2.0.1 to WebI 252 SP2 .The average performance while WebI docs refresh/run has been significantly improved after that .In addition to that we are ‘fortunately’ no more getting ‘This page is empty error’ like we were getting in previous version . But ,things are not so good always ,i suppose … Now the Web I login time for average user has been incresed to 41 sec unlike it used to be for previous one (22 sec) . Does anybody is having an idea of what might be the probable reason(s) for that …Any help will be appreciated …

thanks,

Is this the average WebI login time (22 sec) that other installations are used to ???

Our login time is similar and it seems slow compared to demos I’ve seen. Query time is also excessively slow. Any ideas for tuning the Server?

WebI 2.0, Repository is MVS/DB2, Middleware is IBM CAE 5.2 fp8

Our numbers don’t follow that

We went from 21.6 under 2.02 to 18.1 under 2.51… have you done a repair / compact on your repository lately? Just a thought… Any differences in the advanced tab of your security domain connection?

We ran timings over a couple of weeks, those numbers are pretty good (note how close we were on our 2.02 to yours )…

Good luck,
Brent

If you could post your respective configuration and number of users it may highlight some configuration issue.
But in general, I noticed that the login time with a repository Version 5 is slightly longer that it was with a V4.
And consequently if you moved from Webi 2.0x to Webi 2.5.x you upgrade your existing V4 repository.
I don’t have any explanation as the SQLs used for the login may have slightly changed but definitely not dramatically. If any have a logical explanation, I will be interested.

Our Production login time seems slow. The login process can be broken down into three parts and I’m wondering how to speed up each…

  1. Click OK to log in till you see a blank screen
  2. Blank screen till you see the top and left nav bars
  3. Nav bars till you get a corporate documents list

In Production the total login time is 25 seconds broken up as follows…

1 - 12 seconds
2 - 9 seconds
3 - 4 seconds

In Development the total time is 8 seconds broken up as follows…

1 - 5 seconds
2 - instantly
3 - 3 seconds

So, the login being used in both places is the same. That eliminates any repository organization issues…trust me, our setup is efficient  . Can anyone tell me what is happening at each of these three points and what can be done to speed things up. Needless to say the prod box is MUCH more powerful and faster! The main difference is that the Prod box is on the internet.

Our total login time about 10-13 sec.
Part 2: 3 seconds

Part 3: Select a category to be shown for corporate documents (WEBi options) instead of showing all categories.

Suggestions:

  1. Is the same DB middleware with same configuration parameters used on both WEBi servers to connect to BO Repository DB?
  2. Any firewall involved when going to WEBi Production box or a slow Switch/Router?
  3. Are you using a clustered WEBi server?
  4. Look at the performance stats for the Web and WEBi server when hitting it.
  5. Look at the route that the whole login requires (tracert etc. to go from user desktop to Webi server to BO repository and back) and optimize route between user, WEBi, Web Server, BO Repository.
  6. Look at how many groups users typically belong to - see if you can optimize it, linking vs disabling resources etc. (even though you ruled this out by comparing Dev vs Production)
