Want to rename object name; reports automatically refreshed?

Hello,

The names in my universe are wrong; if I rename a lot of object names, what about those names in my existing reports: how the new names can be “refreshed” (it seems not to be… I still have the old names in the report data table, query and report)?

You can renae and after that edit the report and run the query.

This will automatically take care of this…as objects work from MAGIC ID.

Unless… You’ve renamed the columnheaders in your reports of course.

The comments above are correct – because BusinessObjects assigns internal object-ids to the objects – so the names one “sees” can be changed by just renaming the objects.

This presumes, of course, that the universe you’re using had initially been exported to the repository – and that the updated universe has been exported to the repository. Is that true in your case?

Actually I do not know many details re. the technical infrastructure; I’ll send these information to the dev team and hope they will make this work as you all mention.

PS: I guess we tried renaming objects but using a standalone PC, w/o any repository server and so on; we have to try using the repository then.

I don’t know for a fact that this is the reason this would fail – but I’d suspect it to be so.

Rename the objects and export the universe to the repository.

Now log into Business Objects and refresh your report. All changed objects names will get reflected unless you have changed the column headers.

This will work if you are on bo 5.1.6 or above. if You are on version below this then you need to open the query panel and close it to see the changes.

If you want to test this on a standalone pc then make the chanegs to the universe and save it in the universe folder and then log in Business Objects and then refresh your report.
