URGENT Business Objects 4.1.5 Upgrade Questions

“NEED HELP TODAY” and I know I can rely on all the BUSOB LISTSERV subscribers.

We are having a problem with upgrading from 4.1.2 to 4.1.5 on some systems… We are currently on a WindowsNT; Service Pack 5 operating system and are right in the middle of an upgrade of over 140 users and we have installed two out of five servers with the new version and have experienced the following error message on only a few desktops:

“~SETUP.EXE (2) Business objects is unable to perform an installation.”

We are performing a client de-install then install of Business Objects 4.1.5 by temporarily putting each user into a Desktop Admin group with the rights to perform local installs. Unfortunately, we have had a only a few desktops where Business Objects does not recognize their admin rights and will not allow them to install. We are afraid to move forward with the majority of our users until we rectify what seems to be a “privileges” issue with Business Objects.

Note: One of those users experiencing problems is a Windows95 laptop client.

Have received one response from tech support that did not help. “And We are not performing fresh installs from the CD”.

I would appreciate any help, and when you respond could you please send directly to my email address also, since I only receive a LISTSERV email once at the end of every day.

Thank you!

First, I am going to assume that this is a Network installation you are attempting.

We had a similar problem back when we upgraded to 4.1.3. Problem turned out to be the network group here, although had admin rights were not able to install the software because they were not the owner of the NT machine which has the B.O. application. Once they logged in with the owner’s ID of that PC it worked out fine. But they did do a de-install followed by the installation of 4.1.3

Hope this helps

"~SETUP.EXE (2) Business objects is unable to

perform an installation."

That message usually means that there was a failed install on the machine. Look for the file ~setup.exe in your temp directory. Delete it and try the install again. It should work.
