Upgrading Repositry Database - BCP'ing data out

Hi,

My Sys Admin needs to upgrade the Sybase Database that our repositry lives in.

He needs to take that data out, upgrade the database, and put the data back in.

He is seeking information about:

Would you be able to find out the max. size of the “image” data in BORepository?

According to my manual, “When you copy out text or image data, Adaptive Server, by default, copies only the first 32K of data in a text or image field.” The rest of it is not copied. I can make it copy more than 32K if need be.

Your Sys Admin must be talking about what for most folks are the BLOBs that are used in the Document Domain, the repository table: OBJ_X_DOCUMENTS

We’re on Sybase 11.9.2, and Sybase tells me that the column X_DOC_B_CONTENT from that table is of type image. Depending on the document size, it is possible for the BusObj document to span many rows of that table.

If you don’t handle that properly, you will lose your Corporate Documents, InBox documents that haven’t been read, LOVs… So you want to be sure to deal with this correctly.
