Upgrade from BI4.2 SP3 Patch 13 to SP7

Hi,

We are is the progress of upgrading SQL server from 2008 to 2016, on checking BO product matrix for SQL 2016, CMC repository will support only BI 4.2 SP4+ so plan to move to SP7. I would like to know experts suggestion whether SP7 is stable or still with many bugs.

Also I have not gone service pack upgrade before, is it challenging like version upgrade or more straight forward process.

Hi,

Go with the latest patch possible. I believe it’s patch 4. We found few bugs in the patch 1 and also in the patch 3.

thanks, I checked with SAP support the latest version is SP7. Also the reports, Universe and security needs to be migrated?

It depends on what is your current BO version. If it’s not very old you can do an in-place upgrade so then the migration of content is not needed. That’s what we did last month, we went from 4.2 SP3 patch 12 to 4.2 SP7 patch 3.

We are planning to move from BO4.2 SP3 patch 13 to BO 4.2 SP7.

As you have done recently, can you please share the best practices and steps in doing the upgrade.
