Unkown error message

Hi all listers,

We are on

BusinessObjects 4.1.6;
NT Workstation SP4.0
DBase AS400

When trying to open a previously saved report a user is now getting the error message ‘Cannot open the file due to an unknown error’ (see chapter 2 on really useful error messages). Has anyone come across this problem before and how did they resolve it?. I am trying to rescue the report as it has a number of complicated conditions to enter.

What also seems to have happened is that a *.pdf file was created just after the file was saved in BusinessObjects. I tried to open this thinking this may be an error message associated with the report, but it failed to open.

There was a write-up of this error in the Business Objects Customer Newsletter of October 1998. I don’t know if it is still available on the web site. For AS400 they suggest going to the ODBC administrator to select the datasource used to access the repository, click on the Setup button, go to the “Other” tab and in the translation section check “Do not translate CCSID 65535”.

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for your reply. I checked this settting under the Translation tab of the data source. The setting was as you suggested. Looks like I will be doing some more hunting around.

Kind regards

Martin
