Hi all
We just move to v.5.0, but I’m having some troubles, when trying to run any query the program is displaying the following error. Unhandled Exception
Code c0000005
Description: Exception_Access_Violation
And then the program shuts down.
Why is this happening, is an installation failure? Or maybe has to do with the computer capacity?
Any help is really appreciated
Best Regards
Omar
Can you give more details? Does this happen thru Webi reports, full client on the web, business objects client? Does it ever work, sometimes or always fails…?
I saw one tech note on a similar error that said too short a timeout on a connection can cause this error, or maybe a damaged objects.lsi file… If you stop and restart (the server if using webi, your pc if full client) - does that help?

We have the same problem, but it only happens on a few queries so far. It’ll happen everytime on the same query from some machines, but not on all. And it doesn’t happen on all queries from that same machine. I’ve tred recreating the universes affected and the associated queries with no success. Scan and Repair, ditto.
In our environment (MS SQL Server 6.5 and 7.0), I’ve seen the error being caused by conflicts with:
c:\business objects\businessobjects 5.0\qyunv50.dll c:\winnt\system32\mfc42.dll (on the NT machines) c:\windows\system\sqlsrv32.dll (on the Win95 machines) and
c:\windows\system\msvcrt.dll
It must be 5.0, because we never had this problem with any 4.x or 3.x versions. It’s currently an open ticket with BusObj.
When you get the error, hit the “save” button and forward the log it produces to TechSupport.
I’m curious if any other shops have seen this “bug” (the error actually has a picture of a bug on it) and what steps they’ve taken to correct it.
Funny you mention msvcrt.dll - I saw minimum version requirements on this in the installation white paper - have you checked the version of that dll, maybe ugpraded it via Microsoft?
I cant find the details now, but I know I have seen that in some BO documentation, maybe check the knowledge base while waiting out tech support?
I’ve been getting this bug the past 2 days - I’ve been writing new queries. It seems to happen when I have saved a query with a lot of data (?) I’m thinking it’s not enough memory…
It is just what Dave has said, I’m working with full client, I’m also having problems with my login & password, at the moment I tried to start BO an “Internal Problem” message pops up; but in the past when I tried to run BO I had the same message with the Bug picture and everything, it also showed that were problems with some .dll files but I didn’t get to write the names down. There is only one login accepted, the one created by the general supervisor, the problem is that, even if I start BO with this login I can’t run any query at all, the message with the bug pops up always, I can’t get to work with this version. I’ll contact tech support.
Thanks for your messages
Brgds

We have had problems with this error also. The only time we had this error appear consistently was when we had deleted a universe and named the new universe the same name. Once the original universe was deleted from the user’s machine, she only got the error at “random” times like the rest of us.
We have had problems with this error also. When I created Universe and tried to save it I got this message. I called Business Objects Tech Support and opened Case. Their recommendations (if the first step did not help used the next one):
Rename existing file msvcrt.dll and copy the same file from CD BO. (Did not help)
2.Reinstall Designer (Did not help)
3.Reinstall Designer and DataBase (Did not help) 4.Reinstall everything (Did not help)
After that I backup all Universes and Reports from C:\ drive and deleted everything included BO folders and cleaned Registry and after that installed BO again. Now for the last two days I did not get the same messages
Could you have just deleted the BOMain.lsi without doing the safe recovery? If I recall correctly, the BOMain.lsi will be created when you log in, if it doesn’t already exist.

I deleted the bomain files and did a safe recovery - I stopped getting those errors, at least for now.
Yes, it just didn’t dawn on me that this was (maybe) the culprit…

Question: Has anyone noticed a relation between “Unhandled Exception Error” and “You are not authorized to use this document FMR0008”? I receive an Unhandled Exception, choose save (to busobj.log) and can only abort. The log file seems also to abort - can’t find it anywhere. I can access the document during the same NT session, but cannot in a new one?? Could there be any correlation?
Hi all I am running Business Objects 5.0.2 One of my reports gave me the error below. Now every other report I try in this Universe gives the same error.
Does any one know a way around this?
Do I need to re-install?
Is it possible to recover this report?
Thanks
The first thing I would try is a reinstall. Do an uninstall first, and then reinstall. Try opening one of the documents that was OK before trying to open the one that caused the crash. If that’s OK, then try the one that crashed. If it crashes again, the document may be corrupted and unrecoverable. If it doesn’t, be happy.
Hope that helps.

Unhandled exception errors are the biggest issues we have had with 5.02. I have placed roughly 5 different cases to Tech Support regarding these issues. These can happen in a variety of places in the 5.02 end user module. We have found the following:
Sometimes caused by DLL conflicts with Windows system DLLS(mfc42.dll, msvcrt.dll). Although Tech Support cannot give me a list of DLLs that BO is expecting, check the versions that are on the PC compared to what is sent on the CD (unless you have an earlier CD in which there are “bad” files on it - which we also had).
Sometimes we re-defined the connection string in the universe using 5.0 Supervisor/Designer. We are Oracle shop, so instead of seeing the “SetNet 2.3” you will now see “Oracle Client” as the middleware. This seems to have cleared up some of the errors.
If it is a report with multiple data providers, the 5.02 version sometimeshas a problem correctly managing the cube. If you use the new Multicube function for the report variables, this seems to fix the problem on the report.
Overall, this is a frustrating error and even harder to try to fix. Never has just re-installing worked. We have done it some many times we now have the license key memorized!
I encountered a similar problem. I inadvertantly linked a core universe ‘C’ to universe ‘A’. Not realising that universe ‘C’ was already linked to universe ‘B’. Universe ‘B’ was already linked to universe ‘A’. Still with me … ???
Having two references to the same core universe caused all existing reports bulit on universe ‘A’ to fail … on all clients.
Hi,
most of our problems with unhandeled exception errors sorted out with deleting the universes from the users PC , so that they get reimported from the repository the next time you use them. Give it a try it couldn’t harm.
