I filed a case with tech support some time ago, but in the end we had to conclude that both 5 and 6 version have the same tendency to become unstable on W2000 in the Case when memory in use exceeds starts to exceed the standard available internal memory.
So, when having nothing open (but Mcfee running) mem usage of my desktop is about 155Mb. With some applications open and approaching 260Mb (I have 256 Mb internal) problem tends to appear.
Same goes for other users on W2000, both with versions 5.1.3 and 6.1a.
Never noticed this instability with W98 and we are going to test with XP…
I’m having the same issue. I’ve tried Nick’s suggestions. The problem only started happening for some reports, upon migrating the user from 5.1.4 to 6.1b. Just after logging in, I can open the problem reports, but only the first one I try. After the first one is opened (and even after closed), all other problem reports will blow up. It could be memory-related, but it seems related to specific reports too. The client runs XP.

schirmer – a c0000005 unhandled exception is just that – some error (exception) that BusinessObjects has not anticipated, so it hasn’t provided a specific error routine and message for it (unhandled).
It doesn’t really help to paste the long dump here – I doubt that anyone will be able to give you any information from what’s there.
You might figure out what was special / different that happened before the error occurred, and check to see if there was a bug that was fixed in version 6.1.3. Or, you can try doing a Search here on BOB for c0000005 to see occasions that others have reported here in the past, and for possible resolutions, such as this topic.
All,
Based on my Experience, This error doesnt have one single reason.
There are somany constrants involved in the background process which sometimes fails and you’ll get this error.
Error is based on :
-Insufficient Memory to perform Complex Calculations
-Object Id Corruptions and sometimes engine will not able to synchronise at object level changes.
-SQL generation errors for multiple selects
Like , there are somany reasons behind and it always prompts you the same error, whenever it fails to perform the job.
Solution :
Retreive the same last saved copy and redo it.
Try to recreate the last data provider or last object/variable created.
Try to work on the Last Changes you have done and recreate it.
There is no direct solution for this error and just have to feel that you got some break time.
Hint : Its nothing to be worred, but always try to make your stuff in multiple versions.
I’ve even solved it by re-arranging the order of the result objects. A particularly complex CASE statement as the first object caused a crash, but placing a “simple” object first resolved it.
