Unable to make prompts optional

The user should be able to select a value for one of multiple prompts and have data filtered based on that prompt value. The other prompts could have no value entered or a wildcard which would indicate all. Also the preference will be to have the wildcard be accepted so the user would put M% to get all values starting with M or % to get all values.
