What is the best (in performance and fiability) between using Tomcat as web/application server or Apache as web server and Tomcat as application server, in BO XI R2? Is there a difference ?
It depends on the companies policy.
Some companies like to have a seperation between Web and App server for firewall rules or what ever.
I have worked on both modes and felt no big difference, but make sure you dont waste hardware resources for the web server as it just acts as a gateway.
I’ve got another question. I’ve tried to configure Apache2 with Tomcat5 using jk2 connector but I faced a problem : I didn’t find any “mod_jk2.dll” for windows (only “mod_jk2.so”) !!! So, I’ve decided to use that .so file, is it correct ?
I’ve never configured Apache to work with Tomcat and I have to admit that I’m not able to configure httpd.conf + jk2.properties + workers2.properties correctly .
Could you please help me or give me examples of these files ? I’ve searched on internet and followed different solutions but it never worked
Do you have any documentation you can send me on Configuring APACHE HTTP SERVER as the web server,
and TOMCAT as the application server,
to work with XIR2?

We’re currently using the mod_jk connector between Apache 2.0.46 and Tomcat 4.1.30 and it’s not the most stable environment (BO 6.5.1). Part of that is probably due to the fact that we’re on older versions of Apache & Tomcat, but I think part of it is the connector.
I believe that mod_jk2.dll is no longer supported, read here to find out more:
