Tips on converting from 4.1 to 5.0

Just wondered if any of you have converted from BO 4.1 to BO 5.0? If so do you have any tips and or pitfalls that would be helpful when I convert. Appreciate any information you might have.

If you are really going to 5.0 or 5.1, I would save all inbox documents to your personal documents, there is an issue you would avoid…

Sorry I do not quite understand what you mean by save all the inbox documents to my personal documents. Do you mean import and save all the documents that are on the repository on my PC? thanks,

I believe he was referring to WEB-I. I seem to recall a recent discussion regarding the disappearance of WEB-I inbox documents with WEB-I 2.5. You may want to look up the thread in the archives to be sure. Since I am also 4.1, I was only paying minimal attention to the conversation.

We are planning on having our users go to their inbox documents (via Webi) and do a Save on the documents that they are concerned with keeping… this makes a copy in Personal Documents, still in Webi - those seem to come thru the migration process ok. Inbox documents are iffy.

We have just done that for about 350-user installation here in Perth, Western Australia.

Here is an effective strategy:

  • ensure that all users’ reports and designers’ universes are exported into the existing 4.1 repository - set up a copy of the 4.1 repository as version 5 test repository (refer to the Installation Manual) - involve the key users in testing the version 5 test repository - after resolving problems discovered in the tests, coordinate with all concerned to schedule the conversion for the production version 5

It is good that 4.1 can co-exist with 5.0 in the same PC.
