I have a table with a break on one column. This creates an automatic A-Z sort.
I want to sort on a date column and maintain the break. How do I override the column with the sort?
May try breaking on the date column first? You can remove the headers and footers of the date break so it will not be obvious that you are breaking on it.

I think you’re going to have to add a break to your date column first, and then add a break to your “other” column, so that your report will be ordered by date first, then “other”. I think breaks always take precedence over sorts, no way around that.
Remember, you can control how a break “looks” by using the Format - Breaks menu item. If you turn off the Break Footer and Remove Duplicates options for your date break, you’ll probably get the results you’re looking for.
