This may sound silly but…
Could anyone tell me if it is possible to send a query to run through DAS directly from the Query panel (ie. a new report which hasn’t been run before)?
We use:
BO 4.1.3, DAS 4.1.3, Oracle 7.3.4
Or, how do other users get round the problem of writing a new query and then running it (say it takes 2 hours), and still use their PC at the same time? Use 2 PC’s maybe…Any ideas?

In v4, use the following steps:
Create the query
Click on “Options” (lower left corner) 3. Set “Do not retrieve data”
Click Run
When you run the query, no data will be retrieved. The report structure will be created, so you can Slice and Dice or do any formatting as required. Then send to DAS. DAS ignores the “Do not retrieve…” setting and will refresh your data.
In v5 they have made this easier to do: on the query panel is a Save and Close button that accomplishes the same thing.
What you could do is to not run the query by clicking on “options”, and then check “do not retrieve data”. This will do the parsing but will not actually run the query. You can then send the report to the Document Agent Server for processing. You can also set-up the Document Agent Server to run on each person’s individual machine to run as a separate application, but this will probably suck up about 90% of the machine’s resources.

In the query panel , go to the options button Click on ‘do not retrieve data’.
Run the query.
The report is not fetched with data but you can submit it to the DAS and the data will be fetched.
THAT was not the answer I expected… Very good to know, our report writers might really like that one
Thanks,
Brent

That was a good one! Most folks shudder at the thought of running more that 1 DAS anywhere. Having 1 on every desk is probably not very practical. It’s a small app, but $5000 for each license is probably not worth it.
