I’ve been trying to trackdown the concept of a snapshot within reporter, and I’m not getting any answers that address my issue. I have a group of users who review a report 1 a month. However, rather than refresh a report everytime they come into Infoview, I would just like to save the report without having to save it as an HTML or PDF. Doesn’t Business Objects have a way to save a snapshot of the report results?
You want to save the data with the Business Objects document?
A simple save will do, just make sure that you have not turned on AutoRefresh when the document is opened.
The snapshot feature of BusinessObjects is designed to capture a “point in time” of a drillable report. It has nothing to do with capturing a “point in time” of a standard report block.
Some folks that I have worked with in the past have used save to PDF, save to XLS, or other file formats, using the date as part of the file name. There is a topic in the SDK forum that has fairly recent activity that talks about doing just that.
But there is no facility within the tool to capture a monthly “View” of the data and retain it within the same report. Is that what you are trying to do?
What I do a simple save and jump into Infoview, I always have to hit the refresh button to generate the data. What I want to do is run my query and save the snapshot before I publish. That way, all my end user has to do is open up the document. Am I missing something?
Ah, no. If you run your report, and then publish it to corporate documents with the data included, then you should be fine. Just make sure - as Andreas says - that you do not turn on the “refresh on open” option for that report.
