I have restricted several groups of users to certain functionality of the Business Objects product in supervisor. For example, some users cannot export data to another format or send documents to other users.
HOWEVER. Looking at the list of options to disable in the supervisor module there are some options that are rather cryptic to say the least. Such as “PUSH DOCUMENTS”. Does anybody know of a source where these options are explained ?
I don’t know of a source which defines all that, but what I found out is: there are options available to enable/disable from ALL BusinessObjects products, even if you dont’ have them installed,e.g. SAP-specific, OLAP cube access specifics, WEBI specific. The one you mentioned, I guess, deals with Channels (push document to channel?).
hope this helps.

In a message dated 00-02-09 04:48:30 EST, you write:
“PUSH DOCUMENTS”.
Classic typo ! It’s meant to be ‘Publish Documents’ !!
Discovered this by disabling it and realising I could no longer publish.
FWIW:
I don’t think this is a typo. With Internet Explorer 4.0 MSFT introduced the concept of channels that you could “push” documents out to clients. I think maybe BusObj was planning on using this same terminology for their own product. At the conference last year, one of the BusObj presenters mentioned that he didn’t know what they were going to do with the entire “channels” idea since MSFT had dropped support for that in IE 5.0.
But the “token” or menu item may have stayed the same.
FWIW: I don’t think this is a typo.
I stand corrected ! Having retested this, it does in fact just cut out the option to ‘Publish to…Channels’ rather than the whole ‘publish’ functionality.
On your point about channel support, the publish to channels thing seems to work perfectly ok once setup in supervisor and a report published. I haven’t fully been able to test it here though as we’re not permitted to use Channels in IE !
