Resolution of Service Name

Mike,
Check the TNSNAME.ORA file on his PC. It will need the name that is associated with the connection string of the universe he is trying to use.

If it is not defined in this file he will get this error.

Another test is to run PING and try and see if his PC can resolve the name of the server where the universe resides. If it cannot the PC has a TCP/IP problem in that it cannot see your DNS (Data Name Server) server. This server contains the names and addresses of your servers (sort of like a phone book).

Copy your TNSNAMES.ORA to his system (if possible) and store it in the NETWORK\ADMIN directory and have him try again. Or just run SQL*NET Easy Config and define the name for him.

Any other question let me know.

Sincerely,

Hey Folks…
I have a user that is getting an ORA-12154: TNS could not resolve
service name. When I use the Universe, I have no problems. I can
retrieve data, so I’m assuming it must be something with his PC. What’s
confusing, is that he can get to Oracle outside of B.O. from his PC.
Thanks in advance
