We are in the process of migrating our database (DB2 8.1.5) on AiX to new hardware (IBM power 5), I need to understand the prerequisites (if any) and the steps for migrating the BO repository.

Did you try taking a look at the Supervisor FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)? There is a frequently-asked (hint, hint) question there called How Do I Move my Repository?.
Another suggestion – (like you’ve not heard this one before 
) – try a Search - suggested keywords: migrating repository
